Trees of Mexico

During our stay in Mexico I developed a fascination for the giant trees that grew among the houses through the asphalt. It sent me on an investigation about the borderline between humans and nature.

In Mexico City, there are strict regulations against cutting down trees. Unauthorized removal can lead to significant fines and even legal action. Furthermore it is the responsibility of the house owner living next to it, to take care of the tree.

The trees of Mexico City provide shade, reduce pollution and help to manage stormwater runoff, which is vital in a city prone to flooding and air quality issues. Residents and activists, like the «Tree Army» in Mexico City, are actively involved in protecting trees and challenging illegal tree removal.
